About us The little harbour village of Schull, (set in the far south-west of beautiful County Cork, Ireland), has long been associated with food production of the finest quality. For decades, fish has been harvested from fresh Atlantic waters, processed and then shipped to various destinations. The revival of traditional cheese production, along with organic farming and growing, have all made their mark to establish international reputations and an increasing sense of pride amongst those who are personally involved in food production. Schull Country Market (established in 2002) aims to meet the demand for local and specialised food and craft products. It has all the enthusiasm of a young market while trading under ancient regulations stipulating that most products are produced ‘on the kitchen table’. Local producers and craftspersons run their own stalls, so there is a lot of passion involved in their creations and, more importantly, the rare opportunity for direct personal contact with the producer. Because you are dealing with them direct, you will often find that prices are cheaper than you can find in the shops. Visit the market, wander round with a cup of coffee while taking your time to sample the fabulous home made foods that are on offer. From Farmhouse cheeses to speciality salami, pates and sausages, wonderful breads, cakes and pizzas, jams and honey, fruit and vegetables - these and lots more are available at Schull Country Market. Visit us every Sunday during the trading season which now runs from Easter to Christmas. (Check our Events page for precise details). In addition to the wide range of delicious foods - the Market is also home to an unique selection of local crafts. These include beautiful handcrafted jewellery and needlework, rare and wonderful creations in felt, handmade cards, limited edition prints, photographs, woodwork, high quality handcrafted pottery, candles and unique items of painted, fused and stained glass. (See the Directory for more details !) Take the opportunity to talk to the stallholders. They know about their products because they made them! Join us! Don’t forget to bring your shopping basket. And perhaps be prepared to linger longer than anticipated! For more details, or to contact us - see our Contact page. |
